New Surveillance Society Timeline, Report and Video

There's been a flood of recent surveillance news - from the Seattle Times article about growing video surveillance interest in Seattle to the Wired News story about the FBI leveraging CALEA to develop the Digital Collection System Network (DCSNet), to the Wall Street Journal bombshell that the director of National Intelligence is opening up high-powered military spy satellites to local and state law enforcement.

In the midst of these activities, the ACLU has released Even Bigger, Even Weaker: The Emerging Surveillance Society: Where Are We Now?, an update to the 2003 report Bigger Monster, Bigger Chains. In addition to noting programs that have surfaced over the last four years, the report includes a timeline of technology advances and surveillance-related policy.
